Hi All
I have been a bit directionless with my photography of late. Trying a bit of everything and not really achieving anything. There is nothing wrong with that approach, but I need a challenge to get me motivated.
So I thought maybe I should just focus on Street Photography for a while. It would be a great way to get to know this new city I'm living in and there always seems to be something happening where people aren't going to be overly surprised when a camera is pointed at them.
Street Photography is a great way of examining the social environment in a natural and unplanned way. A street photographer has very little control over the scene and the people in it. Its only when the camera is noticed that a reaction may occur between the photographer and subject. Which in itself can create the recipe for a great shot. But its these reactions that have put me off street photography in the past. Like most human beings I have a fear of confrontation (Not having that fear is a sign of having a psychopathic nature). All the books and expert advice on this recommend just getting out there and doing it. Using a smile to break any tension and just being bold.
I have browsed through my chaotic filing system and pulled some of the street stuff I have shot over the last year or so. I can tell that I need to quicken my technique in getting my camera set for the scene happening in front of me. I think street photography is probably a little more forgiving of poor focus, composition and lighting, but sometimes just a little more attention to detail can make a big difference to the impact a photograph has.
I am very critical of the Street stuff I have shot so far and so have uploaded a few examples to my scraps which I will show below.
